The expanding ministry of Radio of Hope has reached a point in its existence where existing (or potentially retiring) staff must be supplemented to accommodate greater ministry opportunities. Both on-site (the greatest need) and possibly an off-site position (special program producer) are being considered which can only be filled by missions-minded individuals possessing a variety of skill-sets and performance capabilities. The local positions will demand a great deal of flexibility, creativity, tenacity and dedication. In fact, just moving to the Olympic Peninsula, in Washington state, would be a significant faith-act! In some operational ways, this media ministry resembles life in a third-world missionary-compound! As a tourist destination "outside" money has made finding affordable housing difficult. So, if you can, or do, live in an RV/Motorhome, that will make getting established here much easier!
If the Lord is calling you to pour many hours and lots of energy into a radio ministry that uplifts, blesses and soothes the souls of hurting people (but has no guarantees about the money) then this is the ministry for you! While it does take money to live, we have found that non-profit life can be uncertain. However, for those seeking to do God's will as a primary life-goal, the Sovereign Lord has repeatedly demonstrated His ability to guide and provide. We are currently in our 13th year of operation so we KNOW that God is faithful! Ultimately, one really needs to know they have a call from the Lord, into mission-service, and domestic radio outreach is no exception. If you can get and stay here; there is work to be done!
"Often the Christian life is beset by dangers, and duty seems hard to perform. The imagination pictures impending ruin before, and bondage or death behind. Yet the voice of God speaks clearly,
"Go forward." We should obey this command, even though our eyes cannot penetrate the darkness, and we feel the cold waves about our feet. The obstacles that hinder our progress will never disappear before a halting, doubting spirit. Those who defer obedience till every shadow of uncertainty disappears, and there remains no risk of failure or defeat, will never obey at all. Unbelief whispers, "Let us wait till the obstructions are removed, and we can see our way clearly;" but faith courageously urges an advance, hoping all things, believing all things.
"The reasonable man adapts himself to the conditions that surround him... The unreasonable man adapts surrounding conditions to himself... All progress depends on the unreasonable man."
So, you don't have to be crazy to do missions-radio, but some people may think you so! In any event, where else will you find all these exciting challenges and opportunities AND have the potential to reach a half-million people or more each day with the Three Angel's Messages for Jesus? The Everlasting Gospel will go forth to conquer!
If, having absorbed this council, you are interested in this high-adventure, good for you! Here are some of the specifics of our expansion plans and goals.
Radio of Hope seeks born again individual(s) with a missionary spirit, authoritative and conversational speaking voice/style (you are only speaking to one person at a time with just a microphone in-between), a strong creative streak and a desire to finish the work. Prior experience in communication is a plus, but not an absolute. Is there any engineering in your background? That could be helpful, but is not a requirement. Are you and computers "as one"? Modern radio, and office-support as well, lives and dies with the CPU beasties! We are a Windows facility with Sound Forge, Vegas Pro, Audacity, a local and extended LAN with a dozen computers and multiple microwave and IP paths.
While a large number of our programs are received ready-to-air, we also work with significant amounts of raw audio so production is a daily event to fill a 24/7 schedule. Our Traditional music format also requires that we import audio from a variety of original formats and process it to broadcast standards and levels. Growing interest in our network audio services also presents a potential for remote voice work (PSAs, WX, etc.) for client stations.
Terrestrial radio is in a state of transition and adaptation with the reality of the Internet and connected-listener expectations. Social Media skills are a valuable segment of marketing, as is web design and Photoshop experience. Positions are developmental and the specifics will provide opportunities to stretch and grow. Radio, like other older forms of media, needs to meet and exceed listener expectations in both the aural AND visual arenas.
As we present a Savior worthy of praise and honor, we want our listening family to enjoy the experience as we keep them company throughout the day and into the night!
